Battle Ready: Transforming Your Life Through Faith

In the journey of faith, we often talk about the "mountain top" moments—the times when God finally completes a project, heals a relationship, or provides a financial breakthrough. But have you ever stopped to consider what you do the moment after the victory? In the latest installment of the "Build and Battle" series, Pastor Jeremy dives into the Book of Nehemiah to reveal a profound truth: what you do first after a blessing speaks volumes about the state of your heart.

Whether you are building a business, a family, or a ministry, you must realize that every "build" comes with a "battle." The enemy doesn't target you because you're weak; he targets you because of what God has instilled within you. To protect what you've built, you need more than just physical walls; you need a spiritual foundation that cannot be shaken.

The Build and the Battle: Why Resistance is a Sign of Progress

If you’ve felt like you’re under fire recently, take heart. Pastor Jeremy reminds us that the "Build and Battle" season is often the longest and most grueling because the Holy Spirit refuses to let us move on until we are truly transformed. We started this year with the understanding that God wants to build something significant through us, but that progress acts as a magnet for spiritual warfare.

Why do we battle? Because the enemy wants to take away the seeds God has planted. But we must remember two things:

  • The War belongs to the Lord. The ultimate victory is already secured through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.

  • The Battle belongs to us. We are called to stand our ground, but we never fight alone. We fight in the power of the Holy Spirit.

When you feel the heat of the battle, it’s not a sign that you’ve gone off track; it’s often a sign that you are exactly where God wants you to be. You aren't just building a career or a lifestyle; you are building a kingdom legacy, and that is always worth the fight.

Setting a Spiritual Precedent

In Nehemiah chapter 7 and 8, we see a shift in the narrative. The Jews had successfully returned to Jerusalem and erected the walls. These walls were essential for defense and security. However, as soon as the physical work was done, they didn't just throw a party and go back to business as usual. Instead, they immediately set a spiritual foundation.

This is a critical lesson for us today. If our communities, families, and nations are going to return to Jesus, the first thing we must establish is a spiritual precedent. You can have the strongest "walls" in the world—financial security, a great education, a stable job—but if there is no spiritual foundation, the structure is doomed to fail.

The Local Church as a Beacon

Pastor Jeremy emphasizes that the local church is intended to be the cornerstone of any developing community. It stands as a beacon of morality and a beacon of hope. When a community is built on soft ground—prioritizing commerce or vice over spiritual health—it lacks the stamina to survive the storms of life. As you build your own life this year, you must ask yourself: Am I building on the rock of Jesus, or am I building on the shifting sands of the world?

The "First Thing" Heart Check

One of the most challenging points in this message is the idea that the first thing you do after receiving a blessing reveals the true priority of your heart. When God blesses you with monetization, a promotion, or an unexpected gift, what is your immediate reaction?

For many of us, our "Amazon carts" or "Target carts" are already full. We spend 90% of the blessing on our own desires and then turn to God and say, "I'll give you what I have left." This "leftover" mentality suggests that our hearts are more tied to our possessions than to the Provider.

To break this cycle, we must learn to:

  1. Recognize the Source: Acknowledge that 100% of the blessing comes from God.

  2. Prioritize the Kingdom: Set the spiritual foundation first by honoring God with the "first fruits" of our time, talent, and treasure.

  3. Audit Your Reactions: Pay attention to your first instinct when you get a "win." Is it to celebrate yourself, or to thank the Lord?

Standing vs. Leaning: The Standard of Truth

In a world that constantly asks us to "lean" toward one political side or another, the call for the believer is to stand. We don't have a political lean; we have a biblical stand. When evil comes in like a flood, the Bible says the Holy Spirit rises up a standard. We are that standard.

Standing on the Word of God means:

  • Rebuking in Love: We don't stay silent about truth, but we speak it with a heart for restoration, not out of "vain conceit."

  • Accountability: We hold each other to a higher standard because we care about the spiritual health of our brothers and sisters.

  • Removing Distractions: We must actively remove the "noise" of the outside world that tries to hinder the seed of the Word from taking root in the soil of our hearts.

Key Takeaways for Your Week

As you move forward in your "Build and Battle" season, keep these insights in mind to stay grounded:

  • God is 100%: Even when you feel like you are only "78% of the way there," remember that God didn't rise with partial power. He rose with all power. He is capable of finishing what He started in you.

  • Foundation over Decoration: Don't get so caught up in the "walls" of your life that you forget the foundation. Prayer, scripture, and community are the bedrock of a life that lasts.

  • Check Your First Response: This week, observe your first reaction to good news. Use it as a diagnostic tool to see where your heart is truly anchored.

Conclusion

God is doing a transformative work in this season, but it requires us to be "battle-ready." We cannot rely on our spouses, our bank accounts, or our own strength to save us. Only a firm foundation in Jesus Christ can sustain us through the building process and the battles that come with it. Let’s commit to being a people who don't just build for ourselves, but build for the Kingdom, standing firm on the Word of God.
